Yubel Guide by Kakashikyle
(Competitive Yubel Player)

Yubel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuV07aaghhY
Yubel is the first form of the three forms in the series. It more of less works the same as level up monsters but it's easier to level up since you're able to get the next 'level' by destroying each of the forms. Yubel is the reverse version of Light and Darkness Dragon. Coming from my point of view, I see it as a card used to stall out while at the same time forcing your opponent to make plays that waste up their resources in an attempt to remove the remaining two forms.

Yubel is a very powerful stall card but it cannot win games on it's own. Because it's so hard to get over, you're able to stall on it for on average for three turns and regain some of your resources and gain some advantage while it sits on the field. Yubel also makes it easier for you to OTK your opponent or poke for decent free damage per turn since they won't commit to the field if they're not sure if they can get over it on their turn. But of course this all depends on what version of the deck you're playing.

How I Believe It Should Be PLAYED

Yubel should be played, I strongly believe, as a defensive card and never as the main focus of a deck ever if you're playing competitively with it. Yubel is a great stall card and that's it. To bring out the full potential of Yubel you have to play it around strong archetypes that benefit from Yubel's effects or play her in decks that lack recovery such as Destiny Heroes, Inzektors and Fire Kings. Adding Yubel to decks that lack recovery will boost it's effectiveness after the deck has gone off and lost most of it's plays. Yubel will stall until you build back up.

Common backwards thinking when playing Yubel:

This is very common among players who has been playing Yubel longer than I have, I only have 1 year of experience with it and came into competitive play using it during the dino rabbit format. Most players, casual or not think that Yubel is the main focus of Shaman builds which is incorrect. Doom Shaman is the main focus of "Yubel Decks" in actuality and it's a common mistake to try and focus the deck around Yubel and not Doom Shaman with little results when you go into games.

Focus Doom Shaman Builds around Doom Shaman and very aggressive plays. Referring back to my earlier statements only use Yubel as a defensive card even in doom shaman builds when you're out of steam or cannot draw into swing of memories or silent doom. Please don't play "Terror Turbo" which means to summon Terror for no reason when other plays would of been better for that turn or situation.

Times I'd say it's okay to rush into Terror would be:

1) Low on resources| need to stall out
2) No other plays| need to stall out
3) Loss of field advantage| board wipe

Playing against archetypes that cannot be destroyed by battle or targeted.
Battle depended archetypes are easy for Yubel to handle
Examples:
Bujin
Blackwings
Fire Fist
Cloudians

Best Lineup
This is something that's hard to get right but the large monster count ratio to Dark Grephers should be:

6 large monsters = 3 Dark Grephers & 2 Armageddon Knights + 2 Summoner Monk or Kagetokage
5 large monsters = 3 Dark Grephers & 2 Armageddon Knights + 2 Summoner Monk or Kagetokage
4 large monsters = 2 Dark Grephers & 2 Armageddon Knights + 2 Summoner Monk or Kagetokage
3 large monsters = 2 Dark Grephers & 2 Armageddon Knights + 2 Summoner Monk or Kagetokage
Summoner Monk shouldn't be played if your spell count is lower than 10
If you're playing kagetokage I suggest you add 4 more level 4 monsters.

I lost as soon as I lost Yubel to banishing:

You should not automatically lose games because you lost a form of Yubel, even if it's the first form. Like stated before, your deck should be made around a strong archetype or idea with Yubel there supporting. If she's the main focus you won't get very far.

Using Limit Reverse at it's MAX
Try to avoid using limit reverse on your own free will. What I mean is, play it like if you were playing mermail. You want your opponent to use mystical space, scrap dragon or other cards to pop it so you go plus off of it. If you're in situations where you have to use limit to bring back Yubel on the end phase than that's completely okay. Other times, just play it like if it's a abyss sphere and you'll get the most out of it.

Draw Power and other ways to improve consistency

Vortex Trooper.
This card combos well with Terror Incarnate since it can replace itself after it shuffled your hand.

Kuraz The Light Monarch.
This card combos really well with Yubel. Popping Yubel, Itself and drawing is considered to happen at the sametime. You can abuse this with Call of The Haunted and Level Eater.

Cardcar D.
You'll be safe majority of the time when you use this card since Terror will protect you. Sometimes people won't veiler it but instead veiler the Yubel.

Forbidden Dress.
This cards without a doubt is amazing in Yubel decks in general since you're able to protect Yubel from monster effects which is the most effective way to deal with it such as Caius, Big Eye, Mecha Phantom Beast and other cards like Dark Hole, Torrential Tribute, and Mirror Force. Most high level tournaments, I find Dress to be way better than Lance especially vs decks like mermail and Dragon Rulers.

Defense

With 101 being played now, it's no longer safe to play Debris Dragon as a defensive option to summon out Yubel in hopes of your opponent ramming into it for damage or killing it yourself. If your opponent has backrow you could run into a D-Prision. The most common play / only play with Debris Dragon would be to normal it to special summon Yubel in Face Up Attack Position which is deadly now in this format. Yubel must always be in defensive position now because of 101.

Most people will just make 101 anyway to try to snatch up your defense position Yubel, it happens often since majority of Yugioh players don't read their cards. Remember to always summon Terror in defense and ONLY use limit reverse on your opponents end phase to avoid being 101'd.

Who's more viable now?

Masked Chameleon is much more viable and safer than using Debris Dragon right now plus it's also at 3. Masked Chameleon summons Yubel back in defense mode which makes it a lot safer. Not only do you save your life points but the risk of 101 is now gone. Masked Chameleon also works well with a lot of other cards and not just Yubel. Right now Masked Chameleon is only good in certain Yubel decks such as

Cosmic Yubel
Doom Shaman Yubel
Archfiend Yubel
Dark World Yubel
Umbral Yubel
Masked Chameleon Yubel (Yubel Reptiles)

Engine!

If you're going for the Masked Chameleon route, you'll want to play at least two of this little guy above. He'll give you the option to special summon Masked Chameleon from your hand even though you have a high level monster on the field such as Yubel. He also has 0 defense which makes him the BEST card to use a long side the Masked Chameleon.
